Past Year of Culture will be best remembered for an extraordinary event in the cultural life of Karachay-Cherkessia – the first international contest “Constellation of Friendship”, which took place in November 2014 in Cherkessk. The competition was established and organized by the Delegation of the World Art Committee in the Caucasus and the International Academy of Art of Caucasus.
Kvarchia N. and Betuganov A.
In those days we had our regular meeting with Kvarchia N.E. At the beginning of our conversation Nuri Yeremeyevich shared his impressions:
- The festival was held at three contest venues in following competitive categories: vocal art, instrumental art, declamatory art, theoretical department, fashion theater, musical instrument performers. I was chairman of the jury in the choreography competition, and I was very interested to see if any Abaza team would participate in it. And when the dance “Koshara” was announced, telling by name, music and movements (everything was so native!) I realized that an Abaza team came on the stage. I really enjoyed that show. In general, I think that the festival was a cultural event of great importance: for children and youth it was a valuable experience in dealing with professionals during the workshops, in order to determine the direction of the development, the development of their talent and skills. Every young musician here understood what he or she had achieved and what they had to work on. I was the head of the delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia and I believe that our art teams and performers at the festival showed respect worthy performance.
Head of the Delegation of the World Art Committee in the Caucasus and the International Academy of Art Caucasus Betuganov A.A. also noted the success of participants from Abkhazia and added:
- The main purpose of the festival-contest was to identify and support the most talented and promising young people, as well as professional development of teachers and team leaders. The total number of participants of the festival was over 300 people from 12 countries, republics, and regions: Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Ukraine (Donetsk region), Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya, Ingushetia, North Ossetia-Alania, Adygea, Karachay-Cherkessia, Krasnodar and Stavropol regions. We plan to hold the festival “Constellation of Friendship” annually in Karachay-Cherkessia.
From conversations with Aues Abuevich I learned about the long history of art contacts between the North Caucasus and Abkhazia.
– In 1986 (when many were not even aware of our historical, cultural and ethnic relations), as head of the Republican scientific-methodical center of folk art of Kabardino-Balkaria, I began to invite Abkhaz artists to Nalchik, for competitions and festivals, – he said. – In the following years it became a tradition. We organized our first joint art laboratories, seminars, workshops, scientific and practical conferences. The apotheosis of the cultural life of that time became the first International Festival of the Abkhaz-Adyghe culture in 1991 in Nalchik, which was organized on my initiative. The participants of the festival were representatives of all world diasporas. This grand event was held during 10 days at the stadium “Spartak”. Also we organized concerts, processions and open-air performances in the regions and cities of Kabardino-Balkaria. It was attended by over 500 guests. I personally “passed the baton” to Nuri Kvarchia – he was the head of the Abkhazian delegation at the festival. A year later, in 1992, the International Festival of Peoples of Nart Saga took place in Sukhum and also became a bright Adyghe- Abkhaz culture event. The festival ended with laying the stone – the basis of the monument to Muhajirs at the quay. It was just before the start of the Georgian-Abkhazian war of 1992-1993. I and Nuri became guides of the World Art Committee in the Caucasus.
Betuganov Aues headed North Caucasian office of the World Art Committee since 1998, from the time of its creation. World Art Movement was created in Moscow in 1991, at the beginning of the era of change in Russia, and now it covers 36 countries on all continents. Movement has held a number of Artiada. I’d like to remind that during the 4th Russia Artiada, which took place from 28 June 1997 to 28 November 1998 in Moscow, for high skill and great contribution to the song culture of Karachay-Cherkessia a special diploma of the World Art Committee was awarded to the ensemble “Abazinka.” Chikatuev Vladimir also awarded the music prize “Golden Microphone” in 2009. Later, in 2010, Chikatueva Alina – a soloist of the vocal-instrumental group “Abazgs” (created by Chikatuev V.) – won the Grand Prix of the International Competition for Young Singers “BONAMI”, which was also organized by the World Art Committee.
Betuganov A. emphasizes active participation of Kvarchia Nuri in the work of the World Art Committee in the Caucasus.
- Nuri Yeremeyevich is an authorized representative of the World Art Committee in Abkhazia, – he said. – He is an active participant of all our major activities and projects, including, for example, the publication of the book series “Famous people of the Caucasus.” As conductor of this idea in Abkhazia he provided a lot of material for the series. We support the intention of Kvarchia Nuri to create an Art National Committee of Abkhazia and we are confident that this committee will become a full independent unit among the member countries of the World Art Movement.
